In June 2019 I bought a second hand, 2016 plate, Peugeot 308 SW estate 1.2L Puretech from British Car Auctions at Frimley. The car was previously owned by Motability from whom I have had some very good reliable cars from in the past and it had just 24000 miles on the clock.

I have seen online that there was a recall of the 1.2 PureTech across Peugeot and Citroen based on the timing chain and the wrong oil casing it to disintegrate. I have looked at a couple, with the intention to buy for my son and this concerns me now. As with Covid etc there are many cars out there with missing history and I wonder whether garages would take note of using the correct oil with

In the end I conceded I could find no evidence for them being a significant problem. Anecdotally I have an old Citroën that is pretty reliable and I see plenty of 15+ year old Citroën where I live. Some cars do have known issues like rust (MX-5) or particular problems (early ecoboost, rover k series engines etc.)
